Kochi, June 23: Tourism in India is growing leaps and bounds and Singapore is certainly a happy beneficiary of that growth, Pradeep Menon, CEO and Executive Director, Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI), said on Monday.
Speaking to mediapersons here, Menon said Indian tourists make up the fourth largest foreign tourists group coming into Singapore.
About 7.80 lakh Indian tourists had visited Singapore last year, he said, adding ‘we are sure this will surpass the eight lakh mark this year’.
Domestic tourism in India was growing rapidly. ‘We are sure that a part of that will spill over to the international scene and when it does we are very happy to note that Singapore is the preferred tourist destination’, he said.
Kerala has a greater linkage with Singapore be it for tourism or for business or even students, he said.
The air connectivity between Singapore and Kerala was very good.’We have direct flights from Singapore to Thiruvananthapuram and daily direct fights to Kochi,’ he said.
Menon said the delegation’s trip to Kerala was only exploratory.’The principle objective is to explore what opportunities and how the countries or states has progressed in the recent times’, he said
